Ep. 4 - Where to Find the Best Estheticians for Your Spa
You know when it's time to hire. You know how to write a job description that attracts the right candidates. But here's the thing: just posting a job and waiting for the perfect esthetician to apply is not going to be enough.
This is not a field of dreams. If you build it, they will NOT come. You have to be proactive.
The best hires don't always come from job boards. A great esthetician is not scrolling through job boards every day. The best hires are often either already working, still in school, or not even actively looking.
If you post a job and get no applicants, it's not because they don't exist. It's because you're not looking in the right places and you're not showing up in the right places.
My solution? Take a proactive approach and start recruiting before you even need anyone.
The Smartest Ways to Find Your Next Great Esthetician
1. Spa Schools and Aesthetic Schools
This is my favorite one. Build relationships with teachers and instructors before you even need to hire.
Many estheticians start job hunting before they've even graduated, and schools LOVE when spa owners offer mentorship or guest speaking opportunities.
I have a whole slide deck presentation that I use in schools and the students just eat it up. It's honestly probably one of my favorite things to do when I know I'm going to be hiring in the next six or seven months.
Get to know those instructors really well. Schools are SO eager to have people come talk to the students. And the instructors will refer their best students to you, especially if you have a good relationship with them.
How to do it:
Reach out to local aesthetic programs and ask about career placement opportunities
Offer a Q&A session or workshop for students
Let instructors know you're always open to meeting talented graduates even if you're not hiring yet
By the time you do need to hire, you'll already have this wonderful pool of applicants who know and trust your spa.
2. Job Fairs and Networking Events
Hiring isn't just about posting online. It's about meeting people in person.
Especially right now in 2025, relationships are so important. Building connection human to human is so important. I think a lot of us are burnt out by social media, so go meet people in person.
Job fairs let you meet candidates face-to-face and get a feel for their energy. And this is such an energetic industry that is SO important.
Write down their name, maybe give them a signup sheet. That way if they apply later, you'll remember exactly who they are.
How to do it:
Look up local beauty school job fairs
Go to esthetician networking events
Bring a simple "now hiring" flyer or QR code to your careers page
Have genuine conversations, not just a sales pitch
Networking can help you find hidden talent, people who might not be actively job hunting but are open to the right opportunity.
3. Social Media (Yes, Really)
Your social media can help you attract the right talent by showcasing your spa culture. Social media isn't just for booking clients, you can also be recruiting as you go.
Future hires are already watching your content. Show them why they'd want to work with you.
How to do it:
Share behind-the-scenes content of your work environment
Highlight team culture, celebrate birthdays and show how your team has fun
Post about professional growth opportunities like trainings
Create an Instagram highlight that says "Join Our Team" with job openings and application details
The best estheticians want to work somewhere they love. If your social media reflects a strong, supportive team, you'll naturally attract really good hires.
4. Referrals (Tap Into Your Own Network)
Sometimes the best hires come from word of mouth. Your industry friends or existing team members already know great estheticians.
How to do it:
Ask your current team: "Do you know anyone looking for a great spa to work at?"
Reach out to other spa owners, especially those downsizing or shifting their focus
Consider offering a referral bonus when someone refers a candidate you end up hiring
People love recommending talented friends. And if you create a great working environment, your employees will naturally want to spread the word.
Your Next Steps
Here's what to do this week:
Post your job listing in at least two new places
Reach out to a local aesthetic school, even if you're not hiring yet
Start using social media to showcase your spa culture
Remember: the best estheticians aren't waiting around on job boards. You need to go find them where they already are.
