Ep. 83 - Seasonal Ad Strategy for Spas {Planning Around Your Revenue Calendar}

How to Plan Your Spa’s Ad Strategy Around Your Revenue Calendar

If you plan your ads a week or two before each month begins, you’re not alone. Most spa owners do. But your spa business doesn’t run the same way in January as it does in November, so your ad spend shouldn’t either.

I sat down with my ads manager, Pamela Howe, to talk about building a strategy around your revenue year. Here’s what stood out.

Why Q4 Feels Expensive (and What to Do About It)

Q4 is the most competitive quarter on Meta because every business is running ads at once. Pamela compares it to surge pricing on an Uber on New Year’s Eve: demand goes up, so costs go up. If your cost per lead jumps in November, that doesn’t automatically mean something is broken. It’s the season.

The question to ask is not “what does this lead cost?” but “what is this client worth?” In a service business, lifetime value changes the math. A client who becomes a regular will return far more than the budget it took to bring her in. Being a local business also helps, because your radius keeps you out of the national auction.

Brand New to Ads? Don’t Start With Leads in Q4

If your ad account is new or your budget is conservative, jumping into a leads or sales campaign during the most expensive quarter can burn through your money fast. A smarter move is to run awareness or traffic campaigns that grow your Instagram following with local, qualified people, and lean on organic content to keep clients engaged. Then optimize for leads in Q1, when ad costs usually drop and your spa tends to be slower anyway.

Use Warm Audiences When Your Books Are Full

During your busiest season, you may not need as many cold leads. If you have around 500 or more emails in your booking system, consider splitting your budget. Keep a smaller cold campaign running for local traffic, and put the rest into retargeting past clients, people who visited your Instagram or booking link in the last 30 days, or your email list. Pamela notes that Meta’s algorithm has improved, so detailed interest targeting and lookalike audiences matter less than they used to.

Retest, Don’t Just Rerun

Did an ad crush it last Black Friday? Great, but retest it. Offers and messaging can feel stale a year later. Keep a few backup creatives ready, give new ads 48 to 72 hours, and adjust the creative or copy based on your click-through rates.

As for pausing seasonal ads, let your revenue goals decide. If your waxing ad is still filling your books and your cost per lead looks healthy, keep it running. Change the strategy only when you’re shifting your offer, like moving toward higher-ticket facials.

And one more tip: skip boosting posts. It worked years ago, but it’s not the move now.
