The Cobbler's Kids Have No Shoes
You know the saying. The person who makes shoes for everyone else still can't seem to make a pair for their own family. That's so many spa owners right now. You are giving and giving and giving to your team, your clients, your business... and at the end of every month you're looking at your bank account thinking, where did it all go?
The problem is that most spa owners don't treat their own pay as a line item. It feels weird to call yourself an expense. But here's the truth... this business would not exist without you. And it is time to build it in a way that actually pays you back.
Start With the Number
The first step is getting really specific about what you want to take home. Not vague, not "more than I'm making now." A real number. What do you need to survive? What do you need to feel like you're actually winning at this?
For me it was practical things... I needed a van. I needed to be able to push a button and have the doors open because I have two little ones and life is a lot right now. So I reverse engineered from that. What does my team need to be booked at? What does my average service rate need to be? What does my profit percentage need to look like?
When you know the number you want, you can build everything backward from there. That's the shift that changes everything.
Stop Hoping and Start Planning
I spent years thinking the next thing was going to be my big break. This promotion, this new service, this one idea... and it never came. Because it doesn't just happen. It has to be planned for.
