Ep. 36 - My (Boring) SEO Spa Method (Part 1)
Let me tell you about the thing I did every single week for a year that changed my entire business.
Not a fancy new machine. Not expensive ads. Not even a ton of social media posting.
Just one simple, boring, repetitive process that I committed to doing consistently.
And now? Over 50% of our new clients every month come from Google.
People who've never heard of us before. People who aren't following us on Instagram. People who just searched "lash lift near me" or "best facial in Peoria" and found us at the top of the results.
That's the power of SEO. And I'm about to show you exactly how to make it work for your spa.
The Hard Truth About SEO (That Nobody Wants to Hear)
Before we dive in, you need to know this: SEO takes 6-18 months before you know if it worked.
I know. That's not sexy. That's not the "get rich quick" promise you were hoping for.
But here's the thing - once it works? It keeps working. For years. Without you having to do much to maintain it.
I did this method consistently for about two years. Now I just update things occasionally, and Google keeps sending me clients month after month after month.
That's the long game. That's sustainable growth.
What Makes This Method "Boring" (And Why That's Perfect)
Here's why it's boring:
It's repetitive (same process every week)
It takes time to see results (months, not days)
It's not flashy or exciting
There's no instant gratification
But boring is exactly what you need when you're building sustainable systems. Boring means simple. Boring means you can actually keep doing it. Boring means it works.
The Method: 90 Seconds Per Week (If You Have Help)
Here's the entire process broken down:
Step 1: Go live on Instagram or Facebook
Pick whichever platform your clients hang out on most. You're going to answer ONE question. That's it.
Your live should sound something like this:
"Hi, it's Amanda from The Beach House Spa. I'm so excited to talk to you today about why your skin might be flaking this time of year. I know it's not fun - it can actually crack and hurt sometimes. But here are some things you can do to prevent it and why it's happening in the first place..."
Then you talk for 60-90 seconds. Not a novel. Just a simple, clear answer to the question.
Step 2: Download that video
From Instagram or Facebook, download the video to your phone. Simple.
Step 3: Upload it to YouTube
Here's where the magic starts. Google owns YouTube. When you upload content to YouTube, Google pays attention.
Make sure you create a decent thumbnail - it doesn't have to be professional, just clear and on-brand.
Step 4: Write a blog post
Turn that video content into written form. Answer the same question in blog format. Include the YouTube video at the TOP of the blog post.
Now Google sees: "Oh, there's a video on our platform AND a written document answering this question. This is quality content."
Step 5: Copy the blog post into the YouTube description
Take that entire blog post and paste it into the description of your YouTube video.
Google loves this. You're reinforcing the same message across multiple platforms.
Step 6: Upload the blog to your website
Post it on your actual website. Make sure you include your address in the SEO settings of the post.
Google sees: "Oh, this business updates their website every week. They're active. They're relevant. They're providing fresh content."
Step 7 (Optional but Powerful): Send an email
Once a week, send an email to your list that links back to that blog post.
This gets LOCAL people clicking on your content. When Google sees people in your area engaging with your content, it pushes it out to even more local people.
Where Do You Find These Questions?
This is the part people overthink. It's actually simple.
Start with your annual planning. What are you promoting each month?
January: Dry skin treatments (it's winter)
February: Brows + Brazilians (Valentine's Day)
March: Spring clean facials, dermaplaning
Then go to Google and literally search for related questions.
Type in "dry skin" and hit enter. Scroll past all the initial results down to the section that says "People also ask" or "People also search for."
Google is literally handing you the questions people are asking:
How to treat dry skin on face
What causes dry skin on legs
Dry skin on face treatment
Dry skin during pregnancy
Another goldmine: Look at what YOUR clients ask you constantly.
For us, it's "What's the difference between a bikini wax, Brazilian wax, and modern bikini?"
I created a video and blog post answering that exact question. It's now our #1 ranked blog post. Google sends us traffic to it constantly.
The Annual Planning Approach (Do This Once, Use It Forever)
Here's how to make this sustainable:
Sit down with ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI tool. Plan out your ENTIRE YEAR in one day.
For each month:
What's your main promotion?
What service are you focusing on?
What 4 questions do people ask about that service?
That's it. 12 months x 4 questions = 48 pieces of content for the entire year.
Now you just execute one per week. You already know what you're talking about. You're not scrambling every Monday trying to figure out what to post.
How to Delegate This (Buy Back Your Time)
If you have a virtual assistant or team member who can help, this becomes even easier.
Your part: 90 seconds of going live once a week.
Their part: Everything else.
Download the video
Upload to YouTube
Write the blog post (or transcribe your video)
Link the YouTube video in the post
Copy paste into YouTube description
Upload to your website
Write and schedule the email
Literally 90 seconds of your time per week, and someone else handles the rest.
Why This Works Better Than Just Posting on Social Media
Social media is great for engagement and community building. But it's not great for discovery.
If someone doesn't already follow you, they're probably not seeing your content.
But Google? Google is where people go when they're actively searching for solutions.
"Lash lift aftercare" "Best facial for dry skin" "Brazilian wax near me"
These are people with INTENT. They're ready to book. They just need to find you.
And when your content shows up answering their exact question? You're the expert. You're the trusted source. You're who they want to book with.
The Compounding Effect
Here's what nobody tells you about consistent SEO:
Week 1: You create one piece of content. You have one thing ranking.
Week 10: You have 10 pieces of content. More chances to be found.
Week 52: You have 52 pieces of content all working for you simultaneously.
Year 2: You're refreshing and improving 52 pieces of content that are ALREADY ranking.
It compounds. Every piece you create adds to the pile of things working for you.
What Success Looks Like
After doing this consistently:
Over 50% of our new clients find us through Google
We rank first or second for most service searches in our area
We have 50+ pieces of content all working for us simultaneously
New team members can reference our library of content
We spend minimal time on maintenance
That's sustainable growth. That's what boring, consistent systems create.
Your Homework (Yes, Really)
If you're serious about this:
This week:
Pick your platform (Instagram or Facebook)
Choose your focus service for this month
Google that service and find ONE question people are asking
Go live for 60-90 seconds answering it
Follow the rest of the steps
This month:
Do the above every single week
Start planning next month's content
This year:
Commit to 52 weeks of this
Watch what happens to your Google rankings
Track where your new clients are coming from
You won't see results immediately. But in 6 months? You'll start seeing the shift. In a year? You'll be so glad you started.
The Bottom Line
SEO isn't sexy. It's not instant. It won't fix all your problems overnight.
But it IS:
Free (just requires your time)
Sustainable (you can do this long-term)
Compounding (gets better the longer you do it)
Effective (over 50% of my new clients prove it)
Stop waiting for the perfect moment. Stop overthinking it. Just start.
One question. One video. One week at a time.
A year from now, you'll have 52 pieces of content working for you while you sleep.
That's the power of boring, consistent SEO.
