Ep. 73 - Social Media Burnout

How to Stay Visible on Social Media Without Burning Out: A Spa Owner's Guide

Let's be honest. Social media is one of those things most spa owners know they need to do and absolutely dread doing.

You're already peopling all day in the treatment room. You're managing your team, your bookings, your finances. And then someone tells you to also show up online every day with fresh, engaging content. It's a lot.

But here's what I've learned after a year and a half of doing the bare minimum and slowly finding my way back: the answer isn't to post more. It's to post smarter. And to stop making social media something you dread and start making it something you actually enjoy.

Connection Beats Content Volume Every Time

People are not on social media looking for more information. They're looking for connection. That's the whole thing.

And when you understand that, it changes everything about how you show up. You don't need a perfectly edited, highly produced post. You need something real. Something relatable. Something that makes your ideal client feel like you get her.

One of my estheticians recently did a talking head reel about dermaplaning with a microphone clipped to a dermaplane handle. At the end she looked at the camera and said "don't worry, I'm going to sanitize this." That's it. Simple, calm, a little funny. That reel got over a thousand views. Our regular static posts get about a hundred. That's ten times the reach for a fraction of the effort.

The content that performs isn't the content that costs you the most time. It's the content that feels the most human.

Protect Your Energy Like It's a Business Asset

If you're spending all day connecting with clients in person and then coming home and forcing yourself to scroll and create and post, you are going to burn out. It's not a matter of if, it's when.

The thing that changed everything for me was batching. I pick one admin day a week, get into the mindset of my client, think about what she would find funny or helpful or relatable, and I create everything at once. Then I schedule it out through Meta Business Suite and I don't have to go back and touch it again.

You don't have to be on social media every day to show up consistently. You just have to do the work once so the content can do its job for you.

If you're in a slower season right now, that's actually a gift. Use that time to batch your content for the next several weeks. When things get busy, and they will, you'll be so glad you did.

Stop Comparing Your Behind the Scenes to Everyone Else's Highlight Reel

This one almost took me out completely.

For a long time I was measuring my spa's social media against everyone else's and burning myself out trying to keep up with something that wasn't even real. The comparison is what made social media feel like doom. Not the work itself.

The moment I stopped looking at what everyone else was doing and started asking myself what makes my clients laugh, what would she find helpful, what feels true to my spa, everything shifted. I started falling back in love with it.

Your social media doesn't have to look like anyone else's. It has to look like you. And the more it does, the more the right clients will find you, trust you, and book with you.

Aim for two to three posts a week. Prioritize at least one short talking head or relatable reel. Use AI tools or a virtual assistant to handle the editing so you can focus on the fun part. And protect your peace while you do it.

That's the strategy. It really is that simple.
