Ep. 76 - SEO Method Pt. 2

Most spa owners know they should be asking for Google reviews. Far fewer have an actual system for it. Even fewer know that how those reviews come in now matters almost as much as whether they come in at all. If your spa team is still treating reviews like an afterthought, here's what to fix first.

Make Every Review Work for a Specific Team Member
The single biggest lever in a spa's review strategy is simple: reviews need to include the name of the esthetician, not just the name of the spa. When a new client is deciding who to trust with their skin, seeing one team member's name pop up again and again in recent reviews builds instant credibility — and it's often the deciding factor in who they book with first.

A steady, simple ask system does the heavy lifting here. A thank-you card offering a small discount for an honest review works well at checkout. A direct text — more personal and far more likely to be read than an email — works especially well heading into early November, when clients are already in a generous, thank-you mindset for the season ahead.

Velocity Now Matters As Much As Volume
Here's what's changed for 2026: Google is paying attention to how consistently new reviews come in, not just how many total reviews a spa business has. A steady drip of two to five fresh reviews a week reads as an active, trustworthy business. A pile of reviews from two years ago with nothing recent can actually work against you, even if the total count looks impressive.

Responding to reviews within 24 to 48 hours has also become part of the picture — it signals to both Google and future clients that your spa team is present and engaged, not just collecting stars.

The Personalization Hack That's Ahead of the Curve
Generic, copy-paste review requests are losing their effectiveness. What's working instead is genuine personalization — messages that sound like they were actually written by a real person, because they were.

One simple system: build a predictive-text shortcut for each team member that auto-fills a review-ask message in their own voice, with their own emojis, personalized to whoever they're texting. It takes a few extra characters to trigger and saves enormous time — while still reading as completely human.
