Ep. 46 - {Step 2} The First Steps to Hiring Your First Esthetician

You've done the work. You know the hours you need covered, you've figured out your pay structure, you've written your job description. Now comes the part that actually gets eyes on it.

But before you just start posting everywhere and hoping for the best, I want you to shift how you're thinking about this. It's not just about where you post. It's about who is going to see it and whether they're the right fit for your spa before they ever hit apply.

Start With Your Website

Your careers page is your anchor. Every single place you post should point back to one clear application page on your website... something simple like yourspaname.com/careers.

Even if you never get a single applicant directly from your website, it still does something really important. It tells people you're an established, organized business. It builds credibility. And it means all roads lead back to one place, not to your DMs, not to your comments, not to your inbox.

On my careers page I have a short blurb about who we are, who we serve, and what we're looking for. I also have a Google form linked as the actual application. This is something I cannot recommend enough. A Google form is what helped me go from 38 applicants down to the top three candidates in less than three minutes. It filters for you before you even have to read a single resume.

Use Social Media Strategically

Estheticians are on Instagram and Facebook. They're watching spas they admire long before they ever think about applying. They're paying attention to how you talk about your work, how you treat your team, and whether your values feel aligned with theirs.

So don't just post a graphic that disappears in three days. Think bigger. Share why you love what you do. Talk about what kind of esthetician thrives on your team. Show what growth looks like inside your business. And always... always... tell them where to apply, which is back to your website.

Your Email List Is an Underrated Goldmine

This one surprises a lot of spa owners and it really shouldn't. Your clients know people. Even if they don't personally know an esthetician, they know someone who does. And they already trust you and your brand.

A simple email to your list saying we're growing our team and would love your help spreading the word can go such a long way. You're not asking them to apply. You're asking them to refer. And referrals come with built-in alignment that you just can't get from a cold job board post.

Don't Underestimate Personal Connections

Reach out to past teachers, former coworkers, other spa owners you respect. Let them know exactly what kind of esthetician you're looking for. The best hires often come through borrowed trust... someone saying hey, you should really work there, she's amazing. That kind of word travels fast and it attracts the right people.

You can also post flyers with a QR code linking back to your careers page at aligned local businesses. Job boards like Indeed work too, just don't pay for them unless you're in a very large saturated city. Uncheck that little box they have pre-selected. You really don't need it.

Your Homework

Make a list of every place you're going to post this week and actually post it. Your website, social media, your email list, personal connections, job boards. Use each one with intention and make sure they all point back to your one clear application page.

The right esthetician is out there. She just needs to find you.
